The below is what I consider the bare minimum for a meal-providing kitchen.

Food:

all-purpose flour

white sugar

olive oil

butter

brown rice

pasta

coconut milk

bouillon cubes

lemon juice

frozen peas

tomatoes – I always, always, always have fresh tomatoes

garlic

onions

fresh citrus fruit – because I’m pretty sure scurvy is a bad thing

fresh fruit – dealer’s choice on variety

fresh vegetables – dealer’s choice on variety

Spices:

sea salt

black pepper

cumin

basil

cinnamon

 

Additional items I personally always have on hand:

brown sugar

ground coffee

quinoa

arborio rice

greek yogurt

goat cheese

canned chicken broth

sriracha

garam masala

curry powder

thyme

bay leaves

nutmeg

rosemary
