Jewelry Making Adventures

I was finally able to sit up for an extended period of time. Okay, so it was ten minutes. But it was long enough for me to make 2 pairs of earrings.

I’d factor this as a Beginner Level jewelry making project. So come by for a visit and see how they’re done!

For my brother’s birthday, I decorated/texturized a mug for him using a porcelain pen. You can read all about it over here on Life’s Little Mischief’s new home!

Being Nice to Kaitlin (aka Envelopes Full of Relaxation) + Printables

People are constantly pointing out to me that I don’t have a lot of free time. I suppose they’re right, but I keep busy because I genuinely enjoy being busy. I don’t do well sitting on the couch for hours. It makes me antsy.

But it does bring up the most excellent point that “free” time usually translates to “me” time. So being busy every night means that I don’t take time to relax, and everyone needs to relax. That’s just a fact.

Since I’m the queen of planning (I once put “be spontaneous” on a to-do list – I wish I was kidding), I decided to build Relaxation Time into my schedule. And, in an effort to make sure I don’t fill that time with other things, I created a sure-fire Relaxation Scheme.

I created 12 envelopes with 12 Be Nice To Kaitlin tasks and scattered them throughout my calendar. If it’s on my calendar, I can’t skip it, right?

Finish in Calendar
Yes, I still use a paper calendar. What can I say, I don’t trust technology. Also, it’s difficult to tape an invitation or pair of tickets to my iPhone.

If you like these cards, I made you a few printables! Click on the links and then right-click (on a Mac Ctrl+click) on the image to save.

Twine Dispenser

Twine Dispenser

I love the Dollar Store. I find the most random, awesome stuff there. For example, a giant ball of twine and a restaurant-style sugar dispenser. Where else are you going to find a sugar dispenser for a dollar? (Seriously, if you do know of somewhere, please tell me.)

The giant ball of twine was fantastic, but it was impossible to store in a place that I could access it regularly. I wish I had a picture of it, but I never thought to take one. It was a bit larger than a softball and almost perfectly round. Every time I tried to put it on a shelf, it would roll off in a matter of minutes.

Enter sugar dispenser, stage left, accompanied by 2 wine corks and my trusty hot glue gun.

Statement Necklace

I’ve been looking for a gold collar necklace for months, but I haven’t been able to find one that I like. At least, not in my price range!

I found one by Michael Kors that was close to what I wanted, but it was $300. Ha! So not going to happen on this single-girl-in-the-city’s budget. But it is pretty:

Then I ran across this post on Making It Lovely, and decided that since I already had the tools to make a necklace I could just buy the beads and make my dream necklace.
